With great power comes great responsibility

The Philips Lightbulb

It's hard to imagine a world without light, especially when you have 33 lightbulbs inside your house; not counting the outbuildings or the 20 foot motion activated security light on the roof (which will need replacing one day).

This interest started when I noticed one of my GU10's flickering in the downstairs Kitchen. Admittedly I never liked this GU10, being 1 of 4 and possibly the brightest white light in the world! So with it's death I gladly accepted its fate, and took to the internet to purchase its predecessor.

Shopping around I quickly noticed that the Philips 'essential' range was x5 more expensive than a regular bulb and don't ask me how much the 'premium' ones cost because I didn't even look.

But determined to elimiate photopsia, I went ahead by purchasing a 4-pack of GU10 Phlilps Essential bulbs for £50. They took about 5 days to arrive from Amazon, and in that time my joyful apprentice at work shared my excitement for their arrival, "You can change them to any colour you want", "You can link them up to Alexa".

Now unlike most Technology blogs, I am not going to sell you the product. Instead I am going to tell you what actually happened. I received the package, removed the old nasty white lights, replacing them with the new ones, flicked On the switch and "Woola" new lights.

I don't know if it was by luck or magic, but whoever configured the ambient dial on that Philips smartbulb deserves a pay rise. I could not believe the beauty of the light emitting from the default setting, it was like a golden farm on a warm day.  Honestly, the new lights have been so good that I haven't even set them up on Alexa yet and I probably never will.

Despite all the glorious features of a smart bulb, I feel we only buy them to pick a colour, but on this occation, it was perfect right out of the box.

Thanks for reading, come back next week.
